Training, Experience & Expertise

Mr Adam Blackburn is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon fully accredited on the GMC's Specialist Register for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. He undertook his plastic surgery training across the North East of England and at major London teaching hospitals, before completing advanced microsurgical fellowships at St Thomas' Hospital, London and the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.

Following training, Mr. Blackburn was appointed as a substantive NHS Consultant at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, a world-renowned specialist centre for plastic and reconstructive surgery, a post he held for 13 years. Over a distinguished NHS career, he built an internationally recognised subspecialist practice in breast surgery, both aesthetic and reconstructive. He has performed over 1,000 microsurgical free flap breast reconstructions, achieving a 100% flap success rate that places him among the leading practitioners in the world.

Alongside his reconstructive work, Mr. Blackburn has always maintained a broad aesthetic breast and body practice. He is sought after for breast augmentation, reduction and uplift procedures, asymmetry correction, abdominoplasty and body contouring, bringing the same precision and care to cosmetic surgery as to complex reconstruction.

What Mr. Blackburn finds particularly rewarding is the reconstructive dimension that lies within many aesthetic procedures. Restoring the shape and volume of the breast after implant removal (whether through mastopexy, fat grafting or a combination of both) or addressing the deflation and ptosis that often follows breastfeeding, are procedures that go far beyond the cosmetic: they restore form, confidence and a sense of self. Similarly, abdominoplasty is not simply a body contouring operation. In women with rectus diastasis, the separation of the abdominal muscles that commonly results from pregnancy, surgical repair can significantly reduce chronic lower back pain and improve pelvic floor strength, outcomes that are genuinely life-changing and that reflect the reconstructive heart of the procedure.

Mr. Blackburn is a co-founder of Breast Group London, a multidisciplinary network advancing standards in breast surgery, and serves as a Patron of Restore, the charity supporting breast cancer reconstruction.

Now exclusively in private practice, Mr. Blackburn sees patients at the New Victoria Hospital in Kingston, Mount Alvernia in Guildford, the McIndoe Surgical Centre in East Grinstead, and the Benenden Hospital in Cranbrook, offering unhurried, personalised consultations and the highest standards of surgical care.
